Bermuda Varieties
Improved Common Bermuda
Common Bermuda grass is a very durable grass for lawns. It has the ability to withstand heat very well and tolerates cold weather also.
During the cool season, it will turn brown as this is the dormant nature of this grass.
Bermuda grass will spread rapidly if watered and fertilized.
This grass requires less maintenance (other than mowing) than almost any other grass. It grows best in full sun.
Astro Bermuda
This is a variety which we have selected to grow because it is more disease-resistant than other varieties.
Some characteristics are a medium-sized blade and it maintains a beautiful dark-green color.
This grass, like all Bermudas likes sun and spreads very rapidly to give good coverage if water,
fertilizer and mowing are applied on a regular basis.
419 Tiffway Bermuda
Tiffway is a fine bladed strain of Bermuda grass noted for its compact growth (sometimes referred to as dwarf).
It is often selected for fine homes and golf course fairways as a "show-case" grass.
To maintain the best appearance, grass clippings must be picked up when mowing.
The use of water, fertilizer and regular mowing are needed for this grass to thrive just as in other Bermudas.
This is a sun-loving grass and can tolerate both heat and cold temperatures.
Sunturf Bermuda
This is a strain of Bermuda that was developed in Africa. It has a very thin fine leaf--one of the smallest of all the Bermudas.
This variety grows in a compact manner and is only fairly cold tolerant.
Like all Bermudas, it loves the sun and warm weather and will spread rapidly under these conditions if given proper care.
Fertilization will give it a rich green color and it will be a grass you will enjoy having for your lawn because it is beautiful when well kept.
Avoid northern exposures in most instances. Sunturf is a good alternative to bent-grass golf greens and will provide one of the
best choices for a nice playing surface. Sunturf prefers full sun and does not like extreme cold.
It does seem to be more susceptible to fungal disease than other Bermudas.
Fescue Varieties
Turf Type Tall Fescue (TGS blend)
Knowing that over half of the homes in any city have trees, we set out to find a shade loving grass that would provide an green
lawn year-round. We have developed our own fine blend of fescue seed that will make any home-owner proud.
Water is essential for fescue grass as well as special care in fertilizing and mowing.
Zoysia Varieties
Meyer Zoysia
Meyer Zoysia is a carpet-like grass that will tolerate slightly more shade than the Bermudas, but it is much slower at spreading than Bermuda.
Zoysia has a dense root system and to maintain the best appearance, clippings need to be picked up while mowing.
Due to its extreme hardiness, it is being used more and more on golf courses as well as fine homes.
Regular watering, mowing and fertilization make this an outstanding lawn grass.
Matrella Zoysia
Matrella Zoysia has a softer "feel" as it has a finer blade than the Meyer Zoysia.
Like Meyer, it does not spread as fast as Bermuda, but it is just as tough as or tougher than Bermuda.
Its dense root system requires regular watering, fertilizer and mowing (with clippings removed), but you will be rewarded with a beautiful,
outstanding lawn.
Buffalograss Varieties
609 Buffalograss
This grass was developed by Nebraska University Horticulture Department.
Like the Prairie Buffalograss, it requires less water, less fertilizer, and less mowing.
It can accommodate poor soil conditions and survive very well. This is a tough grass that will do well in neglected areas.
Bluegrass Varieties
Bluegrass
This grass has many characteristics akin to Fescue in that it is green year-round and is always thirsty for water.
It has a beautiful blue-green color and requires special care when mowing.
Extreme heat is not well-tolerated by bluegrass, but in shaded areas, it will usually do well if watered regularly.
